Step 1: Find 2 pieces of scrap cotton that you like

Step 2: Press your fabric flat with an iron

ironing your fabric not only gives you a clean finish but also helps ensure accurate measurements

Step 3: On a piece of paper, decide how large you want your bookmark to be.

I wanted mine to be 2”x6” BUT because I needed to account for seam allowance, I made my pattern 2.5”x6.5”

Make sure you tack on an extra half inch to your pattern/design. This is your seam allowance. Ideally you have an allowance of .25” on each side to account for the space between your stitches and the edge of your fabric
